Fashion, History, Museums
The last decade has seen the growing popularity and visibility of fashion as a cultural product, including its growing presence in museum exhibitions. This book explores the history of fashion curating and exhibitions, highlighting the continuity of past and present curatorial practices. Comparing and contrasting exhibitions from different museums and decades – from the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900 to the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011 – it makes connections between museum fashion and the wider fashion industry.
By critically analyzing trends in fashion exhibition practice over the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, Julia Petrov defines and describes the varied representations of historical fashion within British and North American museum exhibitions
Use of investment project implementation mechanism under production sharing agreement for the development of oil and gas
Strengthening the investment attractiveness of economic systems of Russia’s mineral raw material specialization by means of oil and gas project implementation under a production sharing agreement. Purpose of the article is formation of conceptual approaches to the use of the mechanism for implementing investment projects under a product sharing agreement in the development of oil and gas bearing regions of Russia. The techniques and methods of system analysis are used for understanding the procedural and institutional, economic and financial nature of the proposed mechanism for implementing investment projects under a PSA model in the development of oil and gas bearing territories of Russia.peer-reviewe
Superpotentials from variational derivatives rather than Lagrangians in relativistic theories of gravity
The prescription of Silva to derive superpotential equations from variational
derivatives rather than from Lagrangian densities is applied to theories of
gravity derived from Lovelock Lagrangians in the Palatini representation.
Spacetimes are without torsion and isolated sources of gravity are minimally
coupled. On a closed boundary of spacetime, the metric is given and the
connection coefficients are those of Christoffel. We derive equations for the
superpotentials in these conditions. The equations are easily integrated and we
give the general expression for all superpotentials associated with Lovelock
Lagrangians. We find, in particular, that in Einstein's theory, in any number
of dimensions, the superpotential, valid at spatial and at null infinity, is
that of Katz, Bicak and Lynden-Bell, the KBL superpotential. We also give
explicitly the superpotential for Gauss-Bonnet theories of gravity. Finally, we
find a simple expression for the superpotential of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet
theories with an anti-de Sitter background: it is minus the KBL superpotential,
confirming, as it should, the calculation of the total mass-energy of spacetime
at spatial infinity by Deser and Tekin.Comment: Scheduled to appear in Class. Quantum Grav. August 200
On Dual Formulation of Gravity
In this paper we consider a possibility to construct dual formulation of
gravity where the main dynamical field is the Lorentz connection
\omega_\mu^{ab} and not that of tetrad e_\mu^a or metric g_\mu\nu. Our approach
is based on the usual dualization procedure which uses first order parent
Lagrangians but in (Anti) de Sitter space and not in the flat Minkowski one. It
turns out that in d=3 dimensions such dual formulation is related with the so
called exotic parity-violating interactions for massless spin-2 particles.Comment: 7 pages, plain LaTe
Imágenes como herramientas del habla espontánea
The article presents a figurative component in spontaneous speech. It is proved that an image enriches speech, and provides its individualization. Imagery testifies to the creative potential of an individual. It represents a deviation from accepted communicative cliches. Experimental word formation is considered as a source of imagery. A significant role is played by the phenomenon of abbreviation semantics in the process of nomination and renomination.
ADM Pseudotensors, Conserved Quantities and Covariant Conservation Laws in General Relativity
The ADM formalism is reviewed and techniques for decomposing generic
components of metric, connection and curvature are obtained. These techniques
will turn out to be enough to decompose not only Einstein equations but also
covariant conservation laws. Then a number of independent sets of hypotheses
that are sufficient (though non-necessary) to obtain standard ADM quantities
(and Hamiltonian) from covariant conservation laws are considered. This
determines explicitely the range in which standard techniques are equivalent to
covariant conserved quantities. The Schwarzschild metric in different
coordinates is then considered, showing how the standard ADM quantities fail
dramatically in non-Cartesian coordinates or even worse when asymptotically
flatness is not manifest; while, in view of their covariance, covariant
conservation laws give the correct result in all cases.Comment: 40 page
Comparison of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Viruses from Germany and the United States, 2014
Since 2013, highly virulent porcine epidemic diarrhea virus has caused considerable economic losses in the United States. To determine the relation of US strains to those recently causing disease in Germany, we compared genomes and found that the strain from Germany is closely related to variants in the United States
